One a wonderful spring day, Gwen's father announces to her that he has betrothed her to a wonderful lord. Being nineteen, she knows that her time for marriage is waning quickly. However, she still feels she isn't ready for this commitment.
She decides to go off for a long walk in the woods, but ends up getting herself lost. She falls asleep near a small lake, and is awoken some time later by a man bathing there. He apologizes for disturbing her and reveals his name is Brayden and he is actually an elf.
Gwen explains she is lost and Brayden offers to escort her home. They walk for hours, talking and Gwen explains how she doesn't want to marry the lord. Brayden tells her that she is beautiful and she could have any man she wants. But his kindness and his wonderful words make her want him more than anything else. She offers herself to him and the two make passionate love in the woods.
