"Boy Scouts on Hudson Bay; Or, The Disappearing Fleet" by G. Harvey Ralphson is an adventurous tale following a group of five Boy Scouts from New York City as they embark on a challenging expedition to the remote regions of Hudson Bay. The scouts, led by Ned Nestor, include his loyal friend Jimmy McGraw, the enthusiastic Frank Shaw, the adventurous Jack Bosworth, and the aspiring prodigy Teddy Green. Accompanied by two experienced guides, Francois, a French Canadian voyageur, and Tamasjo, a Cree Indian, the scouts navigate through the rugged Canadian wilderness, facing numerous challenges and dangers along the way. The story begins with the scouts setting up camp after a long day of paddling and portaging their canoes through the wilderness. They encounter a bull moose that charges through their camp, causing chaos but no serious harm. As they continue their journey, they become aware of a mysterious presence in the area, possibly a spy sent by a mining syndicate to thwart their mission. The scouts are tasked with investigating the legitimacy of a mining claim that Jack's father is considering investing in, and they suspect foul play. Throughout their journey, the scouts demonstrate their resourcefulness and teamwork as they tackle treacherous rapids, fish for their meals, and remain vigilant against potential threats.
