"Little Erik of Sweden" by Madeline Brandeis is a captivating story set in the picturesque landscapes of Sweden, focusing on the life of a young boy named Erik. Erik, the son of a poor tenant farmer, lives on the estate of Hanssonborg, owned by Fru Hansson and her daughter Greta. The narrative unfolds as Erik learns that Baron Karl von Engstrom, a wealthy but cowardly man from Stockholm, intends to marry Greta. This news distresses Erik, as he knows his brother Nils, a strong and brave young man, loves Greta deeply. Despite the Baron's wealth, Erik sees him as a weakling and a poor match for Greta. Determined to prevent the marriage, Erik devises a plan to scare the Baron away by pretending to be a ghost.
