"The Story of a Plush Bear" by Laura Lee Hope is a delightful tale set in the magical world of Santa Claus's workshop at the North Pole. The story begins with a lively scene where toys, including a Plush Bear, come to life and engage in a playful snowball fight when the workshop windows are left open during a snowstorm. The Plush Bear, a charming toy capable of moving its head and paws and emitting a growling sound when wound up, is soon whisked away by an Eskimo boy named Ski. Ski, fascinated by the bear, takes it to his igloo, but his family, fearing bad luck from the "magic" bear, returns it to the snow outside Santa's workshop. The next day, the Plush Bear is retrieved by Santa's elves and eventually makes its way to a toy store on Earth, owned by Horatio Mugg. Here, the bear is placed in the store's show window, where it catches the eye of a jolly, fat boy named Arthur Rowe. Arthur is captivated by the bear's lifelike movements and growls, and he eagerly desires to make it his own. The story captures the whimsical journey of the Plush Bear from the enchanted North Pole to a bustling toy store, highlighting themes of adventure, wonder, and the joy of Christmas toys.
